weekend report

lamplighter
This week is a short work week since it was memorial day weekend. The weekend was a blast. It was time to spend with family, both church and biological. Relaxation was a big part of the weekend and so was the grill. Thank goodness for whoever invented the grill. Food was great and the fellowship we had at Callis acres on Sunday was next to none. Then on Monday we had one of the many Gonzales outings at Occidental Park. We had food, ball games and good weather. Now it is back to the grind. School will be out this week and it is going to be busy week for sure. I hope I can fit it all in. At least I had this past weekend to rest up for the week!

memorial day weekend

lamplighter
"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

This is Memorial Day weekend. A time to take a moment of silence to remember our lost loved ones. A time to pray for those that are standing on our borders to keep peace. A time to thank those in uniform for putting their lives on the line. A time to hug all who are around us. May you have a blessed Memorial Day weekend, I know I will.

june is just around the corner

lamplighter
What amazes me is how time flies the older I get. Today is Nicholas' last jv game. He had 41 ball games and I cannot believe that they have come to an end. Summer league starts next Tuesday so baseball does not stop but June will be here. Where did the time go? I recall just buying school clothes and taking their first day of school pics. I still waiting for warmer weather, I hope that is what June will be about. My goal for June is to take it one day at a time and to take it slowly. It is already going to be a busy month and it is one that I will not wish away. There is my brother's wedding, another friend's wedding, Vincent's birthday, baseball games, softball games, Father's Day, just to start us off. In a blink of an eye June will be gone. Poor Nicholas will start to feel the effects of time starting to snowball. He has gotten his first job. On top of it being a 40 hour position. Wow!!! A real eye opener for him. The saying stop to smell the roses is one that I am going to do for the next 30 days. Today though it was not roses, it was my lilac bush.

Carpe diem!!!

lamplighter

This past couple of weeks have been full of trials. Vincent's aunt was diagnosed with Leukemia, my sis has some new health problems, Nicholas' asthma came back with a vengence, and who knows what is just lurking around the corner to surprise me. All of this just makes me think that we should not take each other and our time for granted. We always are saying things such as, "we will do it tomorrow" or "the next week". Carpe diem!!!!!! It means seize the day and that is just what we need to do. We need to slow down, take a breather, pick up the phone and say I love you. I know you are probably thinking yeah right. You don't know all that I have to do. Work, kids, sports, doctor visits, chores, laundry, homework, PTO, etc. Well those things are not going anywhere. That laundry is not going to be mad at you cause you did not throw a load in. Take the time out of your day and enjoy it with a loved one, even if it is for a couple of minutes. Go play P.I.G. on the basketball court with your spouse or child. Walk for some ice cream and spend time just being together. If I were to look back on life, those are the things I remember. The simple things. Each morning I will attempt to awake with a new look at life. Remembering the ones I love, here and gone. Carpe diem!!!

who is a lamplighter?

Back in the time before we had electric street lights we had gas lamps. They would line the streets and be personally lit by one man. The glass lamps usually stood about 8 feet high and had a glass enclosure at the top. A young man with a small ladder would start out every evening and slowly light each gas lamp and then again every dawn he would follow that same route and extinguish the lights. Lighting these lamps was time consuming, you had to walk to each light, set up your ladder and light the lamp. Since some of these street lamps did not have an underground gas source, the lamplighter had to carry the gas with him. Also, I am sure they did not all light on the first try. Let's not forget to think of the different inclements of weather too. I can just picture the scene and how it looks. A familiar friendly face that offered a warm glow on the streets. That warm fuzzy glow of lights starting to take over the blackness that would have enveloped everyone. How comforting I think it would have been every evening looking for the face of the lamplighter knowing that he would provide a much needed comfort. Are you a lamplighter?

spam

I have been focused on God's cause and I will continue to perservere. However, Satan likes to send me some spam. He sends me worms and viruses that try to make my life crash. He sends me spam that divert my attention and attempt to take my focus off of the cross and on "other" things. He tempts me with desire to open up the spam to just take a look inside. What could life's spam be? Television, music, internet, gossip, finances, health challenges, etc.???? Today my life's spam is the people that I care for. Thankfully, I am focused and I am aware of the schemes of the enemy. I will continue to seek out God's word and what his will is for ME!!! Like on your email, we in our lives have options on how to filter out the spam. We can devout our lives to prayer, read his word, and stay focused on what HIS will is for us. It only takes a little bit of our time.
Corinthians 2:11 That Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
1 Peter 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
